We are no longer accepting donations on this campaign, but there are other ways for you to support us today!
Olivia Mountz, my sweet, active, outgoing 13 year old daughter, has been diagnosed with Complex Regional Pain Syndrome, CRPS and Functional Neurological Disorder, FND, which are both neurological disorders of the Central Nervous system. These disorders have resulted in severe debility for Olivia, not to mention pain. CRPS is at the top of the pain scale, so that it can become unbearable to the point of feeling like you are on fire (Olivia is just now starting to experience burning pain). She is experiencing severe myoclonus and CRPS seizures or non-epileptic seizures. She has many triggers, which makes walking impossible. Additionally, her right leg turns blue and is extremely sensitive to all touch. There is swelling of her right foot, pain, numbness and tingling in her right leg, abnormal response to temperature, and her right leg gets cold to the touch related to decreased blood flow from vasoconstriction. Most days she can use crutches, but at other times she requires the use of a wheelchair. A gentle breeze can trigger severe spasms for her, preventing the use of the crutches as the spasms cause her to fall on her fractured pelvis. Her right leg is essentially paralyzed as she has little to no functional movement of it resulting in atrophy.
We are seeing many specialists on an outpatient basis, including commuting 4-5 hours, to help her as best we can, but after thorough research we have found a clinic that understands and specializes in all aspects of CRPS. They treat the root cause- Neurologic Dysfunction- this is a game changer, not a band aid. Please check out the Spero Clinic Facebook page and their website. We believe that with the help of the Spero Clinic and donors like you, that Olivia will one day walk again and enjoy spending time with her family and doing the things she loves. Currently, Olivia's interaction with her 4 younger siblings is limited due to the severity of her spams and potential risk for injury. It is especially heartbreaking to watch the ones that love her most try to keep their distance for Olivia's sake.
Our goal is to raise at least $60,000 just to allow Olivia to complete the approximately 12 to 16 weeks of treatment at the Spero Clinic. We will need additional funds to cover living expenses as our family separates during this time so that Olivia's dad can continue to work (the Spero Clinic is about a 15 hour drive from our home). Our family needs your help to get there. We are partnering with Burning Limb Foundation (a 501 C3 nonprofit) as our fundraising platform, 100% of the proceeds of your donation will benefit Olivia and are used for treatment costs and expenses while we are there. All donations are tax deductible
