Emily was 10 years old when she was at the neighborhood pool and rolled her ankle. She had two months of on again and off again pain. Emily was referred to a sports medicine doctor who diagnosed her with CRPS.
Her condition continued to deteriorate. She was unable to bear any weight and the pain was excruciating, her foot was changing colors and temperature, she had developed Allodynia. One night when she was covering up with a sheet, the sheet floated down and brushed her ankle. She let out a scream and broke into tears. The pain of the sheet set a burning shock through her body.
Emily had multiple Sympathetic Nerve Blocks. The blocks would help for a period of time and life would go back to normal. She was an honor student and a phenomenal athlete, she was in cheerleading and swimming. (She had college swim coaches talking to us about her). That all changed the Fall of 2012 when Emily missed a step and rolled her ankle again. She woke up the beast and it has never been the same.
Emily has not been able to experience life as a normal kid. She is not able to hangout with friends, have friends that understand, go on spring break or even have a dating life. Due to her not normal life, her mental health has struggled. Even though she is trying to fit into the norm, CRPS is a dark and lonely road. Emily has had thoughts of suicide but has not devised a plan. Instead of taking her life, she wants to beat this beast of a disorder. Emily believes that Jesus has a plan for her life.
Emily is excited about the opportunity to fight for her life at Spero Clinic. Prior to her knowing about Spero, she has not found a treatment or medicine that will take the pain away. She desires to go into remission and live a pain free life.
Emily works hard for what she has accomplished. She is on the Dean’s List at Ball State University and works limited hours, 10 - 12 hours a week. Emily spends most of her down time in bed in order to try to function for school and work. She is a loving and caring person who desires to go into social work and help change the world.
Will you help fight for Emily to get her life back. Let’s help her live her life to the fullest. We pray that she will be able to get treatment, go into remission, and live her life to the fullest!
